Katie Couric and the footballers are coming to get me

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

Folks at CBS.com and hattrick.org are spending a significant amount of time browsing the website of the country’s best virtual assistance provider. I understand why CBS has an interest in me and my business; I’ll be the lead story when Katie Couric debuts!

But uh, riddle me this, Batman: Why are footballers checking out the Virtual Goddess?

Inquiring minds want to know …

I don’t miss the big city–at least not today

Monday, September 25th, 2006

Good afternoon, campers!

Today’s warm-fuzzy about no longer living in the Big City just came my way. The school bus for the local school district stopped in front of the house and dropped off several neighborhood kids. The cool part? This town is small enough that each bus has its own crossing guard! The guard exits the bus with the children and safely walks them across the street. Now THAT my friends is small town America in action. Like John Mellencamp sang, back in the day, “Little pink houses, baby, for you and me.”

If you’ve never lived in small town America, you don’t know what you’re missing. Most notably the absence of noise and light pollution! When I look up at the evening sky, I see billions of stars, and not the haze of pollution. Sure, we’ve got our local motorcycle junkies and the young guns with their “boom cars,” but it’s nothing compared to what I experienced when I lived in The Bronx. Case in point: I hear the crickets doin’ their thing in the evening AND I see the lightening bugs. (Remember those?)

Do I miss New York City and San Francisco and Washington, D.C.? Sometimes, yes. I’ve lived in all three of these major metro areas and each experience enriched me in so many ways. The culture, the foodism … yes, I do miss it sometimes. And yet, I wouldn’t trade what I’ve got now and move. I’m happy, I’m healthier (no more crazy headaches!) and overall, life really kicks ass.

What say you, dear blog reader? When you look up at the evening sky, what do you see?

More craigslist training to feed your brain

Wednesday, September 20th, 2006

I’m presenting another craigslist training session this week. The training is scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, September 21, and will begin promptly at 6:30 PM (U.S. Eastern time zone).

For those of you know me, you know how passionate I am about craigslist. Craig’s List is not only one of those “why didn’t I think of that?” moments, it’s also a website which all serious web marketers must include in their marketing arsenal. For those of you who’ve been blocked from the site, I’ll school you on how to prevent this from occurring in the future. For those of you wondering what all the buzz is about, I’ll school you as well, and you’ll see once and for all why posting to craigslist is a must.

You could spend hundreds of dollars on craigslist training. But why would you do that? All Sharks know how to get the most bang-for-the-buck, and they also know that live training is the way to go. No more offers of cheesy MP3 files or PDF files to download. My training is live and interactive, and you have full access to me, during the training session itself and afterwards. You attend my training sessions from the comfort of your own home, a glass of your favorite beverage by your side and comfy shoes on your feet. Sure beats commuting in traffic or dealing with the subway system!

All Sharks: Scamper on over to Wild Women Entrepreneurs and register for tomorrow night’s Craig’s List training session. If you have any questions about this training session, dial my digits, 866.611.LORI, or shoot me an e-mail with “craigslist training” in the subject line (Lori@DavisVA.com).

All Guppies: Write me a 500-word essay on how you plan to achieve Sharkdom.

I’m baaaaack …

Good afternoon, campers!

Yours truly had to step away for a bit to deal with business and some family issues. It’s very good to be back in front of my trusty IBM keyboard (aka The Tank) and sending my thoughts out via the wire …

Take it easy

Friday, September 1st, 2006

Good morning, Sharks!

Well folks, it’s Friday, September 1st. (Yes, even virtual consultants look forward to Friday’s.) Monday is Labor Day, but I for one do not plan to labor at all on Monday. If I’m lucky, our cats Shakey and Cindy won’t wake me up at ohhh-dark-30 to be fed; instead, I’m hoping they’ll pounce on Joe, for once! Come Monday mornin’, I want a nice hot breakfast in bed, and don’t forget the hot chocolate, Joe. Makes me think about the dishes which will need to be cleaned afterwards.

Looks like Summer is officially over, especially if the thermometer has anything to say about it. I woke up at 5:45a and the front porch thermometer read 48 degrees. The house is cool and comfortable, and that’s all right with me. Makes me think about all the winterizing we need to put in place, and soon.

I’ve decided that today, I’m going to take it easy. For once. I’m not going to think about the things we need to do to our home before Winter sets in, nor am I going to think about the list of chores I’ve drawn up for myself, which I need to take care of over the weekend. No sir. Today is Easy Day in upstate New York. As soon as I publish this post, I’m going downstairs and make myself a lovely breakfast. And then, I might just stay in my jammies until noon. Alert the media: “Director of the Future Announces Jammies ‘Til Noon!” Instead of taking a shower at noon, I think I’ll take a long, hot bath instead. Turn out the bathroom lights, light some candles, turn on the radio and take it easy. Yeah, that’s the plan …

If you allow it, your day-to-day activities can overtake and consume you, leaving little to no time for yourself and the things you like to do. I say, prior to the long Labor Day holiday weekend, MAKE some time for yourself TODAY and do something just for you. The spouse, animals, family and friends, and clients can wait. Today, promise me you’ll downshift, slow down and do something very special, just for you. If you’ve wanted to get together with your girlfriends for lunch, do it today. Dial their digits right now, and put your plans in motion. If you want breakfast in bed, go tell your loved one right now. If you want to finish that book and you’re on the last two chapters, go get comfy on the sofa, right now, and do it.

I have officially declared today as the First Annual Universal Take it Easy Day, and you have my permission and authorization to do just that!

What say you, dear reader? How do you plan to downshift today?
