Le Tour

Saturday, April 29th, 2006

This year’s Tour de France is only two months away. The years of domination by Lance Armstrong are no more, and I’m ready and waiting for this year’s action to commence.

Is this the year Ivan Basso or Jan Ulrich will win? How about the American Dave Zabriskie? And how does George Hincapie fit in all of this, especially considering his injury earlier this month at Paris-Roubaix?

Only time will tell and provide us with the answers. Is it July yet?

You know you’re a homeowner when …

Saturday, April 29th, 2006

… you prefer to watch DVR’d episodes of The New Yankee Workshop and This Old House Classics, instead of going to see the newest movie showing at the local megaplex.

… you say to yourself, “Well, Tom Silva and Norm Abram use these tools, so they must be good.”

… you look at your hands after you’ve cleared up all the old wood and other bits of crap your husband and his best friend threw out of the attic windows onto the lawn and think, “I need a manicure!”

All right, so only female homeowners utter that last one … work with me here!

Touchdown!

Friday, April 28th, 2006

Good morning, campers!

This has been a very long week and today is the 5th “Monday” of this week, so work with me if I’m a little loopy today. This Director of the Future needs about 10 - 12 hours of quality sleep. Let’s hope the Sleep Fairy will visit my home this evening!

I got up this morning around 5:00a (egads), 30-second commuted to my home office and cranked up the juice to power-on my office equipment. Thereafter, I decided to spend some quality time and review the visitor stats for DavisVA.com. The “touchdown” title of this post is referring to the fact that someone at NFL.com is spending a lot of time on my site. So far, nearly three hours. Three hours? That’s a significant amount of time to spend scoping out a professional Virtual Assistant. Nevertheless, I do appreciate the attention, so keep it comin’!

Now, if I could just get Derek Jeter to check out the site, all would be right with the world …

Go away

Heads up, campers: I received five phone calls this morning from the folks at this number:

416-222-2896

Trying to pitch me on improving my site’s SEO and how they can “help me.” Each time, the same lady was on the other end of the line and each time, I told her she had called me earlier this morning, to which she replied, “from which company?”

This appears to be a Toronto-based company and frankly, they’re getting on my nerves. I know I’m giving them free advertising and I’m fine with that. I requested she send me information via e-mail in regards to their services, but nothing has come through as of yet.

Go ahead … call me again. I dare you.

You tell me

Good morning!

I checked DavisVA.com’s web stats this morning and I noticed the average length of a site visit lasts approximately 24.2 minutes. Is that low or high? At first glance, I would say that’s a pretty good average, but mind you I’m not an expert in this field!

I also achieved a cool milestone, albeit for one day, last week. My site received 10,000 hits on Tuesday. Now, for my niche I KNOW that’s a killer milestone. A fab way to start the new week!

Final reminder: Free advice from Lori!

Good afternoon, campers!

Are you ready for this week’s DavisVA Customer Care Award? Check this out:

Yesterday, Hubster Joe and our good friend B. made a trip to Home Depot. (We’re starting new construction on our home). The guys were gone for hours, and I think they bought out the entire store! Anyway, as the guys were packing up our Jeep, they realized they didn’t have enough room to hold the 2X4s and all the other stuff they had purchased. They should have a rented a truck for the day, but failed to do so. As they were packing the Jeep, one of Home Depot’s employees, who had just gotten off work for the day, jumped in to help. This kind young man took the remainder of our purchases and loaded them in his truck. To top it all off, he followed Hubster Joe home and then helped us unload everything … up to our attic! This is the same Home Depot staffer whom Hubster Joe has befriended … he always asks his advice when he’s in the store.

What this young man did last night for us was obviously above and beyond the call of duty. And yet, he did it. He stepped up to the plate and offered to help. Mind you, our home is approximately 30 minutes away from Home Depot, and in the opposite direction of where this young man lives.

I love Home Depot and the example above is just one of the many reasons why. Home Depot delivers killer customer care, and the same may be said for their staff.

Can the same be said for you and your company?

Just say no

Good evening, campers!

Funny week this past week. On three occasions, I was approached by potential clients who asked me if I would consider lowering my rates. Do I look like I fell off the turnip truck yesterday? I don’t think so.

One gentleman told me he could go to a competitor (and he named the competitor) for one-half of the rate I quoted. I told him that he WILL be calling me within a month of working with this particular competitor, due to their bad reputation and shoddy work. I wished him luck, and sent him on his merry way.

Mind you, I’m all for competition. I’ll put my best team against your best team, and let’s see who scores the gold medal. We’ll put the competition on television and call it “The Battle of the VA Stars.” But, I will not “compete” with sub-par companies. There’s no need to do so, for they are not on my level and never will be.

I know something you don’t know

I need to get a life …

Friday, April 14th, 2006

It’s nearing midnight here on the East coast. I’ve been awake since 5:00a this morning, and I cannot shutdown. Time to share my two favorite names from spam e-mail I received today:

Ipecac Seamstress

and

Janis Dribbles

I should be passed out on the bed, but nooooo, I’m writing a post about two spam messages and for the life of me, I cannot stop giggling!
