1 thing to do right now: organize your chat systems

Monday, October 31st, 2005

Good morning, campers!

Today’s technology must-have is Trillian, an amazing and free piece of software which allows you to manage these chat systems:

AIM
ICQ
IRC
MSN
Yahoo Messenger

Did I mention it’s F-R-E-E? (One of my favorite 4-letter words.)

Install Trillian and then manage your Connections, via any of the systems you see above. One piece of software. One interface. Everything at a glance, and no multiple windows.

Trillian kills.

Get up and boogie!

From the Twisted Mind of the EWA comes this nugget:

OfficeFrustration.com
“A web gateway to the Microsoft community newsgroups for users of Microsoft applications.”

There’s a lot of information to digest. Also, take note of the “unmoderated” disclaimer at the top of the page.

I’ve been phished, you’ve been phished … who HASN’T been phished? BizReport has a brief article on requiring more identification for on-line banking.

As an aside, I applaud ING Direct’s efforts to protect their customers …

The Cable Guy cometh

Monday, October 24th, 2005

Good afternoon, campers!

Never in my nearly 40 years on this planet did I ever believe I’d award the Killer Customer Care Award to the Cable Guy. This is historic, folks!

This week’s Customer Care Award goes to my Time Warner Cable Guy, Jim. Jim arrived at my home last Friday, introduced himself and showed me his TWC ID. Nice touch, Jim; you get extra points for that. Jim worked FAST and clean, moving to the basement, outside the house and up to the attic as needed to completely wire my house for TV and internet access. Cable Guy Jim took it upon himself to trim some vines on the south side of the house, to ensure the vines would not interfere with the cables he was installing. This little step took all of five minutes, and Jim recommended I trim the vines regularly.

At the end of the installation, Jim walked me through the house and showed me all the work he had accomplished. Not a speck of dirt or dust was visible near any of the holes he drilled. Next, he showed me how to use the DVR (very, very cool … I love it!), and we tested my internet connection (very fast connection — hubba hubba).

Dare I say it? A PERFECT installation.

Rock on, Jim.

It’s about that time …

The great and powerful Loridini has returned!

Monday, October 24th, 2005

Good evening, campers!

Well, here I am, writing this post from my home office in upstate New York. A tearful goodbye to The Bronx, several hours on the road and here I am, Miss Homeowner. Amazing.

For those of you who travel north on 87 and then along the Thruway, you know just how insanely beautiful the foliage is this time of year. The vibrant reds, oranges and golds put me in a very relaxed mood, and ensure I continue to marvel at Mother Nature and the gifts she’s bestowed on us.

Here’s what makes me giggle: Instead of the normal pedestrian crossing signs, I see a ton of these signs:

The folks up here are wonderful! They greet you with a smile and a hearty “Good morning” or “Good afternoon.” Some of our neighbors stopped by on Saturday to introduce themselves and to welcome us to the neighborhood. This is how I like life … a little slower, a lot happier and much less stressful.

1 thing to do right now: get on the "A" train

Wednesday, October 19th, 2005

Subtitle: You need Dina Giolitto’s “Article Power” e-book

What is the “A” train, you ask? Why it’s jumping on the Article posting bandwagon. Dina Giolitto introduced me to the power of posting articles on-line, and lucky for us she’s put her knowledge on paper.

Scroll down and you’ll see the link for Dina’s “Affiliate Power” e-book. Also, if you’re on Ryze, checkout Dina’s killer “Article Marketing Mania” Network.

What are you still doing here?

Go!

So long, farewell … you know the rest!

Wednesday, October 19th, 2005

Campers,

This is it — my last night in The Bronx, New York. Goodbye, Bronx Zoo and Botanical Gardens. So long, Terranova Bakery, Mike’s Deli and Arthur Avenue. I’ll be seein’ ya, Roberto’s.

For me, change is a good thing and if you know me well, you’re fully aware of my nomadic spirit. So, what does it say about me that I’m a Homeowner? I think it says I’m in an awesome place in my life, that I’m finally happy and content and that when you’re looking at me, you’re looking at The American Dream in action.

Leaving this two bedroom apartment, with its skylights in each room and for which we pay $1,350 a month, is a very good thing. It means a new beginning, a quieter place to live upstate and a big home office where I can stretch out and get really comfortable. A home office where I can wheel and deal and take this empire I lovingly call Davis Virtual Assistants into the big leagues.

For those of you on the other end of the wire, for those of you living the cubicle life and for all of you who’ve connected with me, I say this:

Make your dreams come to life!

You can achieve your dreams and you can be happier and you can make it happen. If a girl from Kansas with a bizarre childhood can do it, so can you.

Make us an offer …

Tuesday, October 18th, 2005

Broderbund’s Make Us An Offer really got my brain cells going. Broderbund is not selling high-end packages along the lines of what Macromedia or Microsoft sell. Still, it’s an interesting concept.

Have you seen other vendors offering their own “make us an offer” pages? If so, please share that information with me.
