This is why I kill: The "closer" mentality
Wednesday, June 22nd, 2005Good day, campers!
I think I should adopt the “closer” moniker. I’m not kidding.
I picked up two new clients today — one with whom I’ll begin work immediately and the other who starts to work in late August.
The latter told me he chose me because of my bull-doggedness (is that a word?) and the fact that I remained in contact with him, usually contacting him every other day. It didn’t matter to him that my rates were the HIGHEST of all the virtual assistants he had interviewed. What he needs, and appreciates, is someone who’ll stay in his face and get the work done.
My other new client, well, she GETS IT. She’s a very busy freelancer and very dedicated to her craft. I LOVED our conversation, which flowed with no pregnant pauses, no hesitations. Simpatico.
Here’s the deal, campers: I’m not a whiz at business and I don’t have an MBA. However, what I DO know is this:
- If you ignore potential clients, your business is as good as dead.
- If you don’t respond quickly to inquiries which come in via e-mail, see #1 above.
- No one owes you anything. You want your own VA business? Get out there and pound the virtual pavement, my friend.
Running my business is a labor of love, and I’ve worked HARDER at this gig than any job I ever held down in the corporate world. Over time, I’ve learned what works for me and more important, what doesn’t.
Remember, you too can be a closer. The question is, HOW MUCH DO YOU WANT IT?
