Who loves ya, baby?

I have countless Google Alerts in play, and always setup a new Alert after I publish an article online. So, this morning I’m checking Gmail Alerts and I see an article I’d written last month on an international website. Excellent! I write a thank you e-mail, never expecting to receive a response.

Lo and behold, later in the morning I received a lovely response. I won’t divulge the contents, but suffice it to say the respondent was very complimentary and told me my article made her take action. Excellent X2!

Did I save this e-mail? You betcha I did, storing it in my “I Am So Cool” folder. This is my version of the “pat on the back” folder. If I’m having a bad day, or if I’ve made a misstep, I check my “Cool” folder, get some inspiration and then move on with my day.

Look, we all need to hear “thank you” and “I appreciate you” and “you’re important to me.” I fully believe you should spread the love to your service providers. Tell your grocery clerk thank you and watch him smile! Before you hang-up the phone with your telco or cable provider, kill the rep with kindness and let her know that YOU know she’s got a tough gig.

If you don’t have a “Cool” folder, I want you to create one right now. Save all those special notes for when you’ll need ‘em down the line.

There’s no place like home

I am a Wizard of Oz fan for numerous reasons, the least of which being that Kansas is my home state.

CNN.com did a piece on Meinhardt Raabe, but it’s no longer available on the site. Allow me to share a quote from that piece:

“There’s a job for everybody. It’s just a matter of you working hard enough and watching out for the right spot.”

Lovely and spot on.

Is that Central or Mountain time?

Good morning, campers!

TODAY’S PET PEEVE: When I have to guess the time someone’s going to call me.

If you and I are in different time zones (I’m Eastern; where are you?) and you e-mail saying you’re going to call me at 3:00, does that mean you’ll call me at 3:00 PM Eastern time, or 3:00 PM YOUR time?

To avoid confusion, I always spell it out in black and white, using this format when confirming appointments.

Date: Tuesday, May 31, 2005
Time: 6:00 PM Eastern (5:00 PM Central)

This avoids confusion and doesn’t create any additional work for me, meaning I don’t have to waste time confirming the time for the appointment.

Time zone etiquette: learn it, love it, live it.

It’s the little things which count

Today was one of the craziest Monday’s on record. The adage when it rains it pours can easily be applied to today’s activities at my home office!

At the end of my day, DavisVA’s mascot Shakey curled up on my feet and purred, making me realize just how blessed I am.

Savor the good stuff now and don’t let your business run you into the ground.

I’m in love …

… with stamps.com. What a fantastic, and very appropriate, use of the Wonderful World Web.

I have a real estate consultant client in San Mateo, California, and effective this month, we’re going to send out nearly 4,000 pieces of mail every six weeks. A perfect application for stamps.com.

I love the site’s ease-of use, as well. Can you imagine the insanity and time-wasted if I had to go through my local Bronx post office to send out all those pieces of mail for this client? I can, and it’s a nightmare I deal with on a daily basis. No more, thanks to stamps.com!
